Well we made it  through 2021, but we still have some headwinds ahead of us in 2022. Happy New Year to each and everyone of you and I hope the festive season provided you some high quality time to reconnect with family and loved ones in-person and to importantly, relax.

Our Club ended the year in a strong Membership and Financial position as Committees worked diligently through the challenges as a result of the multiple lockdowns imposed upon us all. We may have only achieved two in-person meetings late in the year, but it was evident that the bonds between Members never weakened and spirits still remain high.

We had a great attendance at our Annual Xmas Party on the 23rd December and thank you again to PP Nick and his family for allowing us to take over his beautiful backyard and enjoy ourselves with music provided by Rtn Mahannop (Keng) and his crew. Additionally, thank you to PP Don Lavoie, Danielle,
PP John Quarmby and André-Marie who created a jolly festive atmosphere across the tables that brought home a sense of a real family Xmas Dinner.

It is never the same without Santa Claus and Rtn John Fotiadis stepped in to help us without much need of a costume I must say!  Along with two lovely Santarinees everyone, especially the children were able to sing the night away with traditional Xmas Carols.

And a BIG thank you to PN Aaron who took on the leadership role to bring the event together allowing many Members to kick start their 2021-2022 New Year celebrations.

Now whilst we have outlines of our plans for the balance of this Rotary Year, government regulations and risks to Member health will ultimately decide our fate. The Board is discussing this on a regular basis seeking various views and where we have to we will adjust our plans as quick as we can and announce changes to all Members ASAP. If you have a viewpoint or a concern about our health and safety please let us know through whichever channel is most convenient to you.

See you all at The Crowne Plaza Hotel on Friday 7th January 2022.

Finbarr O'Connor
President 2021-22

Following on the update on the late President Yod's memorial projects at the meeting on Friday 3rd December, the Service Projects Committee, in conjunction with our partner club, the Rotary Club of Chiang Mai Sansai have shared some wonderful photos of children enjoying clean drinking water at the newly installed water system at Wat Wang Luang school.

Wat Wang Luang is a poor but well managed school located in Lumphun province and was proposed by the RC Chiang Mai Sansai. It caters for 169 students from Kindergarten to Mathayom 3rd grade. They were using well water from their own well and treat it with a simple filter which is not enough, as a resulft the TDS value is very high at  and the water has both e-coli and coliform bacteria.

The school had built their own solar cell system to pump the well water into the school compound and look after the school very well.

The school handyman is the driving force behind the upkeep of the school and as you can see from the pictures has built and decorated an enclosed area for the water filter equipment.

The Director of Wat Wang Luang has let us know that they have also put the filtered water in  water coolers inside the canteen so that the students can access more of the clean water during the day, this project has certainly changed their lives.

As you will already know, in  we will plan to arrange a fellowship and inauguration trip to the school and the late President Yod's family have indicated they would like to attend.

Thank you to everyone who supported the P Yod memorial fund or have been involved in making the various memorial projects happen in their own way, we are looking forward to visiting the school.
