THE PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

You have all received a complete package of our District Governor Review plus Board Meeting Minutes for July and August. Whilst our Club Assembly format via Zoom was limited in time you should still address any questions or comments you may have to the relevant Board Member.

A little known fact provided by Dr Wiroon was that whilst he studied at Melbourne’s RMIT back in 1989, he also worked at the Alfred Hospital with Colonel Sir Weary Dunlop. Sir Weary is one of Australia’s most significant war heroes and a surgeon best known for his leadership and skills during WWII at Changi Prison in Singapore.

Our last District Governor visit was on the 21st May 2020 by Past District Governor Somsri. Since then we have added 16 new Members to our Club, hence a Club Assembly is a very important day for  them as well as older Members getting up to speed with our Club’s activities.

Before our Club Assembly last Friday, for thirty minutes, Secretary Yannick and myself reviewed our previously submitted online Club Goals with District Governor Wiroon and Assistant Governor PP Santi. It was quite a good process as each question is very much open to interpretation and working through them again allowed us to get alignment between our Club and District.

We then had the full Board join us for a additional hour to present our Club Plans and provide a status which showed complete alignment across our Club, engagement by all of our Members and a well thought through engagement of activities with our communities. District Governor Wiroon gave our Club “five stars” at the end. He was very, very impressed with our Club’s presentation.

We had a full complement of Rotary District support on Friday as District Secretary Somchai also joined our Meeting. The District’s engagement with our Club is very supportive and I note that a lot of our Members are enrolling for the District's online Zoom meetings which is great. There are more to come, especially a Leadership Training course early next year for which I committed ten of us will join.

See you all online on Friday 1st October.

Finbarr O'Connor

Club Assembly and Visit of  District Governor Dr. Wiroon Boonnuch
24th September, 2021

P Finbarr welcomed DG Wiroon and AG Santi to our club assembly. Board members then presented reports highlighting the various projects and activities of their respective committees.

PDG Alex Mavro introduced our guest speaker DG Dr Wiroon.Traditionally the DG passes on the policy of Rotary International for the year and what is expected from us in following that policy. Dr Wiroon is a surgeon with over 40 years experience and is now a clinical professor .

The DG started by playing a video recording of an inspiring speech by Rotary International President Shekhar Mehta. He was actually addressing President elects worldwide but his message was for all Rotarians. He asked all to dream big, have a vision , plan and set goals to inspire and motivate Rotarians to reach those goals.his mantra has always been" Do More , Grow More."
Do More as in bigger and impactful service projects and Grow More as in increasing our membership. His guiding philosophy has been "Service is the rent I pay for the space I occupy on this earth and I want to be a good tenant of this earth." A worthy philosophy indeed ! He then emphasised the theme for the year 2021 as "Serve to change lives."

DG Dr Wiroon then elaborated on his goals for this year. He would like the district membership to go up to 3,350 Rotarians and a contribution of at least USD 100 per Rotarian. His aim is to add 10 new clubs in our district. Rotary's vision statement is " Together we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change across the globe in our communities and in ourselves."

PP Vichai Tantrativud thanked the guest speaker for his inspiring words as well as those espoused by RI President Shekhar Mehta.

News from Service Projects Committee

Club members may recall that in August, the Board approved a donation of THB 69K to the FORDEC Day Care Centre which serves 150 children
(ages two years to six years).
These children come from families that face hardship due to poverty, broken homes, and/or who have been abandoned or orphaned. With the pandemic, some families whose children are taken care of at FORDEC are finding it even more difficult to make ends meet.
The THB 69K in club funds were donated to provide 86 emergency food packages to the most affected families. To date, 16  emergency food packages have been distributed, and FORDEC plans to give out another 45 emergency food packages to children’s families in Samutprakarn province at the daycare center on Friday, October 1 from 10.00 -14.00, notice of which was sent around to all members earlier this week.
Any interested RCBS members who wish to participate in distributing these food packages may attend the daycare center on that day.
