Fellow Rotarians,

Last Friday at our regular luncheon meeting, we enjoyed the program with our very own Rtn.Colin Hastings on his comedic collection. This time it was slightly different as we witnessed Rtn.Colin in his utmost fewest words of presentation and yet, he did not fail to disappoint with his well-assembled collections of comedy. Rtn.Colin told me that if we didn’t stop him, he could go on for hours with his vast compilation of satirical jokes.
On Saturday, the fellowship dinner at PP Niti’s had a great turn-out. Not only did we enjoy fabulous fellowship, but we also discovered the many hidden talents of our fellow Rotarians’ singing and dancing skills. The surprise visit of PP Maarten and his Ann made the evening more memorable. When notable Rotarians and PPs agree to host the fellowship get together at their fabulous estates,  we can always be sure that the atmosphere, the hospitality, the entertainment programs, and the generous preparations of food and drinks will be unparalleled. The evening at PP Niti’s once again proved to be no exception and I want to extend my appreciation to PP Niti and his Ann for their tremendous efforts.
This Friday will be another interesting program with Rtn.Rick Rees on “One Year in Tay Ninh” (experiences of a US helicopter pilot on the front line in Vietnam). He is a member of RC Royal Hua Hin, one of our daughter clubs. I hope to see as many Rotarians on Friday.
Have a great weekend.

Members were treated to some light moments - very welcome in these challenging times - when Rtn Colin Hastings presented 'A Comedic Collection' featuring clips from some of his favorite TV comedy shows and several amusing Facebook posts. Comedians included Hale and Pace with their hilarious 'Yorkshire Airlines' and 'Have you got a mate who can't buy a round', the latter reminding us all of someone we've known in the past. The brilliant Irish comedian Dave Allen was up to his usual tricks ridiculing religion and German military buffoonery, while the famous 'Don't tell him Pike' from 'Dad's Army' remains as funny today as it did some 30 years ago. The poor old Germans were further humiliated by clumsy hotelier John Cleese in his 'Don't mention the war' clip from Fawlty Towers. But Catherine Tate took that British trait of targeting foreigners to a new level with her awesome attempt at translating in eight languages. Possibly getting the biggest laugh was 'Goodness Gracious', a British-Indian comedy about God being Indian. That said, the Talking Dog had many in stitches.

Meetings were held with staff and students at the Sotsuksa Theppharat School for the Deaf on Suan Luang Beach in Bang Saphan. The first meeting on 31 August was attended by Rotarians and friends to assess the schools needs and explain what Rotary was prepared to offer. During that meeting it was explained by School Director Khun Waraporn Jungsuwadee that of the 115 students total, 30 also suffer from mental disabilities. One hundred students live at the school full time. Fifteen commute from the nearby community.

CP Alan and his wife Wanna returned to the school on 9 September to hand over 56 hearing aids and learn more about the school. Hearing loss among most of the students ranges from moderate to severe in one or both ears. Some have profound loss that cannot be corrected with hearing aids. It was estimated that about 60 students can benefit from the donated hearing aids. Of the students we met, some were so excited about the donation they wanted to immediately try using a hearing aid.
