Today's Topic: Luang Sit Foundation Presentation
No. 2827
19 FEBRUARY 2021
Fellow Rotarians,

Last Friday was Chinese New Year with a well-attended fellowship lunch. There were announcements on the Golf and also that the Board would start discussing ways in which the Club might wish to recognize the memory of the late President Yod. I requested that if any member of the Club wished to share their ideas on this topic, to please pass them on.

The Board met on Monday 15th February and in what turned out to be a marathon sitting we discussed many important topics. We have agreed to hold the PHF Dinner on Tuesday 23rd March and due to the current environment, this will be an internal event for our current members only, with no guests. We also made the sad decision to formally cancel Kids Day Out 2021 as the sanitary conditions do not allow us to hold this event safely; we expect this will return to its regular slot in the calendar in April 2022.

PE Finbarr and the Membership Committee continued proposing new members and we decided to hold a Fellowship and New Members night in late April. The Joint Boards will meet in March and the next Installation Dinner is currently planned for 26th June; so there is a lot for all of us Rotarians to look forward to in 2021. The Board also discussed how we would best recognize the memory of the late President Yod and this process has now formally begun with some clear actions agreed.

This Friday’s meeting will be the last meeting of the month as 26th February is Makha Bucha day. We are looking forward to a fascinating talk on the “Luang Sit Foundation ‘’ by Khun Surawat Chompoopong, Executive Vice President of the Foundation of the Needy Students under Royal Patronage of Her Majesty the Queen, who will be joined by Khun Mongkol Hongchai who is a Luang Sit Alumnus. We will also induct a new member to our club, so I hope to see everyone this Friday for another entertaining lunch.

Have a great weekend

President David Record

Our guest speaker on 5th March is Pandit Bhikkhu, who was ordained in Thailand in 1996, and holds a BA in Buddhist Psychology, and MA in Buddhist Studies from the monk’s University Mahachulalongkorn. He will be updating us on how accessible Thai Buddhism is for foreigners in Thailand, and how it has changed since the first ordination in 1954 in his talk on “Life as a Siamese Monk”. This will be an interesting look into foreigners practicing Buddhism in Thailand.
