Fellow Rotarians,

The events of the last week have brought into perspective for all of us how precious and fragile life is and how circumstances can change in a moment; our thoughts and condolences go out to the family of President Yod.

On Thursday, the majority of the active members of the club along with Rotarians from other clubs and from District 3350, attended the funeral prayers for President Yod and on Friday we saw a large turnout at our regular meeting to pay tribute to the memory of our late President. Thank you to Rtn Sanjeev for being first at the microphone, but also to PP Vichai, PP Krit, Rtn Rod, Rtn Nicolas, PP Dougie and Rtn Frank for their words which perfectly encapsulated our feelings at that moment.

At our next Board meeting, one of the items high on the agenda will be to discuss how we can permanently recognize the memory of President Yod within our club

Today is Chinese New Year, the Year of the Golden Bull, and as such we expect to have a slightly smaller number at our Friday meeting as some Rotarians will have family or work commitments, nevertheless, I hope to see many of you there.

Have a great weekend and I wish you all happy Chinese New Year.

President David Record

President Yod was a popular and affable person... and today we celebrate his life.

PP Nigel - Yod bought his enthusiasm, support and commitment to so many of our charities and he would have expected us to move on supporting them… those that were so dear to him. Yod’s commitment to Coins on Silom, which has been cancelled this year due to Covid-19, and Golf will need as much support from the Club as possible, and Yod would have wanted to see all our efforts focused on making this happen.

V-P David, now President, continued to outline the devastating loss that Yod’s family has so suddenly endured... what was once a happily married wife and 8-year old son is now a widow and a child growing up without a father. Khun Nai has shown incredible strength and resilience at a time when ones emotions and sense of loss are unsurmountable.

Sanjeev indicated that although he is 10 years older than Yod, Yod was always unfailingly respectful, charming, outgoing, stylish and for him life was full of fun and energy. Yod helped change my life when he asked me to serve on his Board, which opened me up to the Club in general.

PP Krit... Shocked and saddened. He was a dedicated son to his parents… a mild mannered gentleman and always willing to help anyone.

PP Vichai - I have known Yod since he joined our club in 2012, and it turned out that his wife is my former Assumption schoolmate’s daughter...which bought us closer together. We had a small group of Rotarians who enjoyed a monthly ‘shared’ dinner. Yod was a real positive thinker and knew how to work with people of different generations and nationalities. He was respectful, cordial and a real gentleman.

Nicholas - Yod invited me to join Rotary... and he’s the kind of person you can’t say no to. As a family friend and very new to Rotary it was wonderful to hear everything that Rotarians have said about him, as I have also seen reflected in his family life. Yod helped me so much when I first arrived in Thailand and linked me into Thai society. He will be missed but never forgotten

PP Dougie - The Club also owes much to P David, V-P John and Khun Khob for supporting, communicating and arranging everything that has happened over the past few days.

Frank - I played a tune after the funeral on my accordion  ‘A man you don’t meet every day’ ... I must have subconsciously been thinking about Yod

The weekly raffle was drawn by PE Finbarr and he won!

Dear VP’s David and John and members of RCBS,
We at Rotary Club of Hong Kong Island East are shocked and sadden to hear of the passing of your President - Khun Yod.
I never had the opportunity to meet President Yod, however PP Nancy and PP Stacy both had the opportunity to meet and enjoy fellowship with him two years ago when they attended the Installation Ceremony of PP Dean. They both said that he was such a kind affable man, a true Rotarian who loved his family dearly and who had so much to offer the community.
Please accept our deep condolences. Very sorry for this loss. May President Yod rest in peace.
Yours in Rotary,
P Leo
